David Woodard
After nearly 40 years of professional experience as a music educator, performer, recording and composer/arranger, Mr. Woodard now establishes “Music Reading For All” to share his expertise and contribute to the music education community.
Mr. Woodard holds a BME and Master of Music Ed. from the University of South Carolina and was Drum Major for the University of South Carolina Marching Band from 1976-1978.
He taught Band for 31 years. Among other accomplishments, his Irmo High School Marching Band earned 11 State Marching Championships, and his Irmo Middle School Band was awarded the Sudler Cup in 2000. He has conducted at Carnegie Hall, the Southern (Atlanta), Western International (Seattle), Midwest (Chicago), and Universities of Wisconsin, Georgia, and South Carolina Band & Orchestra Clinics.
As part of his Kodaly-Solfege-Curwin experience, Mr Woodard participated in multiple Carol Krueger Musicianship Workshops, and she guest-coached his bands. As a conductor and bass-baritone singer, he has directed and sung with multiple choral ensembles, places of worship, and operas in North and South Carolina.
A consummate musician, Mr Woodard majored in Euphonium and still plays.
